Iowa Cubs News Release

Round Rock, TX - The Round Rock Express (6-2) limited the Iowa Cubs (1-7) to three hits in a 2-0 victory at Dell Diamond tonight. The Express won three of four in this series.

Express starter Brad Mills (2-0) allowed two hits, two walks, and struck out seven in seven innings of work for the win. Brett Jackson singled in the first inning and Ty Wright singled in the second for the Cubs' only knocks against the lefty. Johan Yan pitched a perfect eighth to set up Evan Meek for the save opportunity in the ninth. The Cubs threatened to break through when Donnie Murphy drew a two-out walk and Ryan Sweeney followed with a base hit to right, but Meek got Darnell McDonald on a sharp groundout to third to preserve the shutout and earn his third save of the season.

Cubs' starter Brooks Raley (0-2) posted the Cubs' first quality start of the season, but suffered the loss. He allowed a run in with two outs in the first inning when JIm Adduci doubled and scored on a base hit by Yangervis Solarte. The Express added their second run in the bottom of the third. Engel Beltre and Greg Miclat opened with singles. A fielders' choice left runners at the corners for Solarte who hit a comebacker to Raley on the mound. Raley's throw to second sailed into center field for an error as Beltre scored. The Cubs got out of the inning when Joey Butler rolled into a 4-6-3 double play. Raley worked through seven innings and struck out a season-high seven. Jensen Lewis finished the game on the mound for the Cubs, allowing one hit in a scoreless eighth.

The Cubs have their home opener tomorrow night at 7:05 at Principal Park against the Albuquerque Isotopes. RH Nick Struck (0-0, 9.00) will start the opener for the Cubs against RH Blake Johnson (0-0, 9.00) for the Isotopes. The gates will open at 5:35 for a Mediacom Fireworks Friday. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed at iowacubs.com with the pre-game show starting at 6:45.
