Revolution and D.C. United Play to 1-1 Draw in MLS Is Back Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. - The New England Revolution (1-1-2, 5 pts.) played to a 1-1 draw with D.C. United (1-1-2, 5 pts.) in Group C action in the MLS is Back Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney Resort on Friday night. With the point, New England is tied with Toronto FC for first place in the Group C standings. The two sides will meet on Tuesday, July 21 at 9:00 a.m. ET to conclude the group stage.

Forward Adam Buksa scored New England's lone goal of the match, and his second of the season, with a headed finish in the 51st minute. After a Cristian Penilla shot was deflected, the 24-year-old Polish striker's header beat D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid to give the Revolution a 1-0 lead. However, in the 72nd minute, D.C. United equalized on an unassisted goal from Federico Higuain.

Buksa finished tonight's match with five shots and two shots on target. Alongside him in the attack, forward Gustavo Bou logged seven shots and two on target in his 90-minute outing. Bou currently leads all MLS players with 16 chances created, one ahead of teammate Carles Gil's 15 through only two starts. At the other end of the pitch, a pair of Revolution players hit milestones, as Matt Turner and Brandon Bye each recorded their 50th career MLs start.

New England will conclude Group C action with an early kickoff against Toronto FC on Tuesday, July 21 at 9:00 a.m. ET. The match will be televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, and will air locally on 98.5 The Sports Hub HD2. Revolution Play D.C. United to 1-1 Draw

The Revolution (1-1-2, 5 pts.) played to a 1-1 draw with D.C. United (1-1-2; 5 pts.) in the second round of Group C action in the MLS is Back Tournament.

New England moves to 1-0-1 (4 pts.) in the tournament and is tied for first in Group C with one match to play. The Revs will take on their co-leaders in Group C, Toronto FC, on Tuesday, July 21.

In regular season play with the Revolution, Bruce Arena is now an unbeaten 5-0-2 in the month of July.

Arena's record against D.C., the team he led to two MLS Cup titles in 1996 and 1997, moves to 7-4-8.

Buksa Notches Second Goal of 2020

Forward Adam Buksa scored his team-leading second goal of the 2020 season, and his first of the MLS is Back Tournament, with a headed finish past Bill Hamid in the 51st minute.

The six-foot-three Polish striker joined New England as the club's third Designated Player this offseason after scoring 28 goals in nearly 100 senior appearances in Poland. He captured Pogón Szczecin's Golden Boot after pacing team with 11 goals in the 2018-19 season.

Bou and Gil Top MLS Chances Created Charts

Midfielder Carles Gil needed only two starts and 152 minutes played in 2020 to challenge for the MLS lead in chances created, according to Opta. Gil's 15 chances created are tied for second most in MLS, behind only forward Gustavo Bou's MLS-leading 16 chances created.

New England is the only MLS team with two players among the top five for chances created.

Caldwell, Bye, and Turner Reach Milestones

Midfielder Scott Caldwell made his 201st MLS appearance, all with New England, moving him into a tie with Steve Ralston (201) for eighth on the club's all-time list.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner and defender Brandon Bye both reached the 50-start milestone for their regular season careers in tonight's match.

Turner also surpassed Adin Brown for the fourth-most minutes played by a Revolution goalkeeper.

Arena Makes No Changes to Starting Lineup

Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena deployed an unchanged lineup from the team's most recent match on July 9 vs. Montreal, a 1-0 win.

Defender Henry Kessler has appeared in all four MLS matches thus far in his rookie season, playing 45 minutes tonight as a halftime substitute replacing Michael Mancienne.

Defender Andrew Farrell was available for selection on the bench tonight as he makes his way back from the left quad injury that kept him out of the Montreal match.
