Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (4-0-1-2), back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, earned their second shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over the San Francisco Bulls (2-5-1-0) on Wednesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena before a crowd of 6,911.
The first goal didn't come until the 16:24 mark of the first period when Zach O'Brien got loose from the Bulls on a breakaway set up by Art Bidlevskii who earned the lone assist. The rookie skated in close to JP Anderson and wristed a beautiful shot top shelf past Anderson's glove side for his first professional point in his first professional game.
A quiet second period kept the scoreboard at 1-0 in favor of the Reign. Ontario outshot San Francisco after the first 40 minutes of play and maintained the one-goal lead with some great glove saves from Michael Hutchinson.
With 1:28 left in regulation, San Francisco pulled their goalie in hopes of getting a tally on their side of the scoreboard with the extra skater. Dan DaSilva got control of the puck and fired a long shot from the Reign zone into the Bulls' empty cage to give the Reign a two-goal lead with 19 seconds left on the clock.
The win marked Reign Head Coach Jason Christie's 400th win as an ECHL coach - 93 of those wins have been with the Reign.
Hutchinson earned his second shutout of the season stopping all 21 San Francisco shots; Anderson took the loss allowing one goal on 24 shots.
