Road Warriors Fall to Stingrays 4-2

Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors could not halt the Stingrays win streak and fell on Thursday night by a score of 4-2.

The first period was a test for Road Warrior rookie goaltender Jeff Malcolm. He faced 23 shots in the first period alone and to keep the score tied at zero. The Road Warriors had some scoring opportunities but Stingray goalie Jeff Jakaitis held the Road Warriors at bay.

The second period began with South Carolina increasing traffic in front of the Road Warriors' net. Chad Painchaud broke the scoreless game with a goal six minutes left in the frame. The forward scored his fourth of the year on the power play. With two minutes left, Marc Hagel scored by splitting two Road Warriors' defensemen to put the Stingrays up 2-0.

The third period started off hot for the Road Warriors with defenseman Sam Klassen scoring 16 seconds into the period, bringing the score to 2-1. The defenseman scored with a slapshot from the point, registering his first of the year. South Carolina responded by scoring three minutes later with another shot from Hagel who registered his second of the night. Jordan Owens pulled South Carolina ahead by a 4-1 score with a goal on a partial break. J.M. Rizk put Greenville back on the board with a goal on the short side of Jakaitis. This was the final goal that brought the final score 4-2 in favor of South Carolina.

The Road Warriors are back in action tomorrow night when the face the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:00 p.m. at the Bons Secours Wellness Arena. Fans can listen to the game live or watch on America One. The Road Warriors are holding Warrior Appreciation Night presented by Lockheed Martin, on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Bons Secours Wellness Arena. All active and retired members of the U.S. military as well as local police officers, fire fighters, and other first responders can purchase tickets to the game at a special $5 discounted rate. Fans must show proof of service in order to receive the discounted rate. The Road Warriors will wear special Warrior Appreciation Night camouflage jerseys for the game which will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Upstate Warrior Solution, the Harold C. Jennings Foundation, and the Rama Memorial Scholarship Fund.
