Ontario Reign News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Ontario Reign (27-13-3-4), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, fell by a 3-2 score in overtime to the Colorado Eagles (32-14-0-2) in front of a crowd of 5,289 on Sunday afternoon at the Budweiser Events Center.

After coming on in relief of Joe Cannata at the end of the second period on Saturday, emergency backup goaltender Spencer McLay opened his first professional start for Ontario with 11 saves in the first period. The Reign, meanwhile could not solve Clarke Saunders in the opening frame.

The Eagles eventually solved McLay in the second period during a five-on-three power-play for Colorado, as Trent Daavettila fed Kyle Kraemer in the slot, and Kraemer wrested a shot that beat McLay glove side at 8:48.

Ontario answered when Matt White stole the puck from an Eagles defender on the forecheck, and snapped the puck past the blocker of Saunders at 12:43.

The Reign then took the lead near the end of the second, as White gained the zone and dropped the puck back to Tristan King, who fired a shot through a screen to beat Saunders at 17:11.

The Eagles tied the score in the third period when Daavettila knocked in a backdoor attempt on the power-play at 17:54.

Colorado's power-play continued to plague the Reign in overtime, as Collin Bowman blasted a shot past McLay to secure the victory for the Eagles.

McLay took the loss with 34 saves; Saunders picked up the win with 26 stops.

Three Stars:

1. COL - Collin Bowman

2. COL - Trent Daavettila

3. ONT - Matt White
