The Thunder scored five goals in the final period but Justin Breton's natural hat trick in the second helped the Aces squeak past the Thunder 8-5

Anchorage, AK - The Stockton Thunder show tremendous fight during the final 20 minutes, scoring a season-high 5 goals in the final frame, but fall just short of a miraculous comeback as the Alaska Aces escape with the win 8-5 Sunday afternoon in Anchorage. The line of Tyler Maxwell, Tyler Shattock and Vinny Scarsella continued what had been a solid weekend for them as they combine for 3 goals and 4 assists Sunday, while Garet Hunt inched closer to Thunder history with his 150th point of his Thunder career. Unfortunately, Justin Breton and his second-period natural hat trick put the Thunder in too big of a hole to dig out of and the Thunder leave Alaska winless at Sullivan Arena for the season. The Thunder return Wednesday for some home cooking as they'll faceoff with the Bakersfield Condors in a mid-week collision with their biggest rival.

Quotes

"It was what we asked of the guys, not to fold the tents, but to come back and play a period they could be proud of. I didn't expect us to score as many as we did but it proves we can score and we don't give up. I don't think we played a poor game and I don't think the score reflects that." - Coach Kromm on third period comeback

"Obviously we have to bounce back and make some adjustments here to our lineup to make sure we have a group that can go and win a few games in-a-row and not just one hockey game and then lose three and to think that's closer to being acceptable. We need a group that can string games together." - Coach Kromm on using the momentum from the third against Bakersfield on Wednesday

"I was set up by [Tyler] Shattock twice on my first goal and buried the second one. On the second one, [Brad] Stebner got it to Vinny [Scarsella] and his one-timer and I picked up the garbage." - Tyler Maxwell on his two goals

"We didn't steal one up here and that was our mission. Our goal was to steal one here on Sunday and that was our number one priority, and we didn't get it done." - Tyler Maxwell on tonight's game falling short of Thunder expectations

"Going into the third we were down but we wanted to go out on a positive note. We have to take this into practice on Tuesday and to the game on Wednesday." - Tyler Maxwell on using the momentum from the third into Wednesday's game
