Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO (February 8, 2015)- The Missouri Mavericks earned a 3-0 shutout victory over the visiting Quad City Mallards in game six of their seven-game home stand at Independence Events Center on Sunday night after three unanswered goals by the Mavs at the top of the first period.
Mavs forward and Kansas City native, Jared Brown, got the home team off to an early lead with 2 back-to-back goals in the first 5 minutes of play. Brown lit the lamp first at 1:40 of the opening frame, assisted by Lindsay Sparks and Scott Langdon. Number 11 struck again at 4:25, aided again by Sparks to give the Mavs a 2-0 lead. Patch Alber took the second assist on Brown's eighth goal of the season for Missouri.
Not even a minute after the goal horn sounded for Brown's second tally, Andrew Courtney got in on the action to make it 3-0 Missouri at 5:21 of the first period. Teammates Ryley Grantham and Martin Lee picked up assists on the Mavericks third unanswered goal. Quad City Parker Milner replaced Evan Mosher between the posts for the Mallards directly following the Mavs third goal.
Neither team could notch a tally in the second period as net minders Mike Clemente and Parker Milner were tested with 8 and 9 shots on goal respectively.
The Mavericks held their own for the final 20 minutes, teaming up defensively with net minder Clemente in goal to maintain their 3-0 lead and earn a shutout victory at Independence Events Center. Clemente claimed his fourth victory of the Mavericks seven-game home stand, which comes to a close on Tuesday night against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05pm (CST).
Single game tickets are available online at TicketMaster.com or in-person at the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office at Independence Events Center.
