Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (12-8-1-2), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, fell in overtime to the Bakersfield Condors (12-9-1-2) by a 3-2 score in front of a crowd of 6,195 on Wednesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
The Condors opened the scoring by capitalizing on an early power-play chance when C.J. Ludwig fired a one-timer past Jussi Olkinuora at 4:19, with Brendan Brooks and Chase Schaber assisting.
The Reign evened the score after Geoff Walker forced a turnover in the neutral zone that allowed Tristan King to make his way to the Bakersfield net. King stickhandled his way around Brendon Nash, then fired a high shot that beat Frans Tuohimaa at 8:35.
Bakersfield pulled ahead at 11:43 when Ludwig fired a shot from the point that was deflected by Schaber into the net, with Nick MacNeil getting the secondary assist.
In the second period, Ontario once again tied the score up after Matt Register's shot from the left side rebounded off the stick and pads of Tuohimaa, allowing Tyler Scofield to backhand the puck into the net for his first goal in a Reign uniform at 2:30.
A scoreless third period would force overtime, and the Condors emerged victorious in the extra frame when Kellen Jones fed the puck across to his twin brother Connor Jones, who deposited the puck into the open net for the game-winning goal at 1:04.
Olkinuora took the overtime defeat with 28 saves; Tuohimaa picked up the win with 27 stops.
Three Stars:
1. BAK - Connor Jones
2. ONT - Tristan King
3. BAK - C.J. Ludwig
