RedHawks Fall to Memphis in Series Final

The Memphis Redbirds (9-11) avoided a series sweep for the second time by the Oklahoma City RedHawks. Memphis pounded out twelve hits and nine runs earning a 9-5 victory on Tuesday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

Trailing 2-0 in the third, Oklahoma City rallied to gather five runs led by a Jarrod Saltamacchia three-run homer, his second of the year.

The RedHawks lead lasted until Memphis came to bat in the top of the sixth. The Redbirds brought twelve batters to the plate adding six hits and six runs.

Amaury Cazana led all Redbirds with three singles. Daniel Descalso collected two singles and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Brandon Dickson ( 1-1) weathered a difficult third inning lasting seven innings, striking out eight, and allowing just one earned run. RedHawks starter Michael Ballard worked a no-decision totaling five innings, striking out four, and one earned run. The losing pitcher was Willie Eyre ( 0-1, BS) who allowed two earned runs upon six hits in .2 innings.

Oklahoma City and Nashville will begin their four-game set Thursday evening at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Derek Holland and Rick VandenHurk are slated to pitch for the RedHawks and Sounds respectively with a first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm.
