Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - Reno took a late lead on an Ed Rogers three-run triple, but the bullpen couldn't hold on as Las Vegas defeated Reno 13-7 Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark.
With the game knotted at 3-3 in the seventh, the Aces loaded the sacks on back-to-back singles by Doug Deeds and Jeff Bailey and a Ryan Roberts walk. Rogers followed with a bases-clearing triple, giving the Aces a 6-3 lead. The 51s would answer with 10 runs over the final two frames, putting the game out of reach and handing the Aces their first loss of the series.
Josh Collmenter started for Reno, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing three runs, while striking out two and issuing four of the Aces' season-high 12 walks. Clay Zavada (0-1) took the loss after retiring just one batter in the seventh and allowing the eventual game-winning run to score.
David Purcey (2-1) picked up the win in relief of 51s starter Brad Mills, despite allowing Rogers' go-ahead double.
Cyle Hankerd went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Aces, while Bailey and Chris Rahl chipped in two hits apiece.
Reno and Las Vegas conclude the four-game set Thursday night, with Reno RHP Bryan Augenstein (0-4, 7.48 ERA) toeing the slab against 51s RHP Rey Gonzalez (3-1, 7.09 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. PT.
Thursday's game is the second Coors Light Thirsty Thursday⢠of the season. Fans can get $2 Coors and Coors Lights until the fifth inning in the Coors Light Party Zone, and the special will continue upstairs in the Freight House District throughout the evening.
Thursday's game is also "Save Second Base Night," with the Aces teaming up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to support breast cancer awareness and research.
Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both gamedays and non-gamedays.
