Zephyrs Drop Game 3 to Iowa, 9-5

May 5, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Bryan LaHair hit a first-inning grand slam and finished with six RBI to lead the Iowa Cubs past the New Orleans Zephyrs 9-5 on Wednesday night.

LaHair launched his grand slam to deep center field off Zephyrs starter Ryan Tucker, a blast that traveled an estimated 450 feet as the Cubs capitalized on a pair of walks issued by Tucker.

The Z's quickly responded in the bottom of the second, striking for four runs of their own, keyed by a three-run homer by Ryan Klosterman.

But in similar fashion to the Zephyrs, Iowa wasted little time in regain a lead they would not relinquish. The Cubs scored three times in the top of the third, chasing Tucker from the game. Tucker allowed seven runs on five hits and five walks, falling to 0-3 on the year.

Chris Schroder replaced Tucker in the fourth and pitched three innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out three. Fellow relievers Jose Veras and Brett Sinkbeil combined for three scoreless innings.

The final game of the four-game series is tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at Zephyr Field. Right-hander Brian Lawrence (1-2, 5.06) will take the bump for New Orleans, opposing Cubs righty Jay Jackson (2-3, 2.48).
