
Redbirds Snatch Five Wins in Series Versus Cubs

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds wrapped up a series with the Iowa Cubs by taking game six of a six-game series on Sunday night at AutoZone Park by a final score of 4-2.
The Redbirds paced themselves early, scoring one run in each of the first three innings. Designated hitter Alec Burleson put Memphis on the board with a two-out RBI single in the first, then added his 11th home run in the bottom of the third.
With the home run, Burleson is batting .405 with seven doubles, five home runs and 24 RBI since May 7. The left-handed hitter has base hits in 15 of 18 games in that span.
Center fielder Ben DeLuzio also continued to rake against Iowa. DeLuzio reached base in all four plate appearances on Sunday night with two doubles, two walks and two runs scored. On the series, DeLuzio smacked four doubles, two home runs and batted in 11 runs.
Iowa attempted to fight back late in the game, scoring a run in the seventh and eighth innings, but Junior Fernandez slammed the door in the ninth to record his second save of the year.
The Memphis Redbirds (27-21) will head to Charlotte, North Carolina to start a six-game series against the Charlotte Knights on Tuesday, May 31 for a 5:35 p.m. CDT first pitch.
