Iowa Cubs News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - The Iowa Cubs (23-24) stranded 10 runners on-base, falling 4-2 to the Memphis Redbirds (27-21) in the series finale, Sunday at AutoZone Park.

In each of the first three innings, Iowa got a leadoff single and stranded two runners on-base, not able to push any runs across despite threatening in each inning. On the other side, the Redbirds scored one run in each of the first three frames against Luke Farrell.

Alec Burleson had an RBI single in the first, followed by an RBI single in the second from Clint Coulter. Burleson struck again in the third frame, this time with a solo blast to grow the Redbirds' lead to 3-0.

Farrell allowed three earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four over his four innings of work. The game stayed 3-0 until the sixth, when Kramer Robertson drove in a fourth run for Memphis with an RBI single.

Iowa's bullpen kept the Redbirds at four, with Brendon Little and Erich Uelmen combining to throw 2.2 scoreless innings. The I-Cubs tried to fight back with an RBI groundout in the seventh and a solo home run by Greg Deichmann in the eighth, but it wasn't enough.

Junior Fernandez recorded the final three outs in the ninth to earn his second save of the year and a fourth straight win for Memphis.
