Jumbo Shrimp Squander Late Lead in Walk-Off Loss to RailRiders

MOOSIC, Pa. - Despite five scoreless innings from Braxton Garrett, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp squandered a late lead and in a 4-3 walk-off loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Sunday afternoon at PNC Field.

After tying the game in the seventh, the RailRiders (18-29) notched their third walk-off win of the series in the bottom of the ninth. Armando Alvarez worked a leadoff walk against Jacksonville reliever Robert Garcia (L, 1-3). Ronald Guzmán singled and Alvarez was able to advance to third. Oliver Dunn was intentionally walked in the next at-bat and pinch hitter David Freitas hit a sac fly, giving Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the 4-3 walk-off win.

Jacksonville (25-23) broke through in the top of the third against RailRiders reliever Matt Krook. Charles Leblanc and Erik González worked back-to-back walks and both advanced on a wild pitch. With one out, Peyton Burdick grounded into a double play but Leblanc scored the opening run.

Lewin Díaz led off with a walk to begin the top of the fourth inning. Two batters later, JJ Bleday (8) blasted a two-run home run to push the Jumbo Shrimp lead to 3-0.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the RailRiders started to go to work with their bats. Bryan Mitchell replaced Garrett for Jacksonville and issued back-to-back walks. Three batters later, another walk was issued to load the bases when José Peraza grounded into a fielder's choice and an error allowed two runs to score.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre managed to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. Guzmán launched a solo home run off Jacksonville reliever Nick Neidert to tie the game at three.

Garrett took the no-decision in his first start with Jacksonville since going on the injured list on April 26. He spun five scoreless innings with three strikeouts against one hit.
