Buffalo Bisons News Release

COLUMBUS, OH - Wrapping up a six-game set against the Columbus Clippers on Sunday afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons won the series finale 7-5 to take five of six from the Clippers at Huntington Park, their most successful road series of the season thus far.

Casey Lawrence recorded yet another quality start by going six innings and allowing just two runs to win his sixth start of the season. Through eight starts with the Herd this year, Lawrence has only allowed more than two runs once, when he allowed four over six frames on Apr. 27.

The Bisons took an early lead in the second when Zack Collins hit a monster homer off the scoreboard, before a Vinny Capra sac fly allowed another run to score in the third.

The Bisons defence was also a big factor in this one, throwing out three Clippers on the basepaths over the course of the game. A textbook 8-6-2 relay prevented a run from scoring in the fourth, before Gabriel Moreno threw out back-to-back baserunners in the fifth, one trying to advance to second on a throw home, and one trying to steal second.

Moreno had a lengthy at-bat in the sixth which resulted in him singling off starter Peyton Battenfield, before Jordan Groshans went deep for his first career Triple-A home run to chase Battenfield from the ballgame.

A sloppy seventh inning on behalf of the Clippers, one which included two errors on a pickoff attempt and another botched fielder's choice, allowed the Herd to add two more runs without a hit. Capra would go on to drive in Nathan Lukes after the latter recorded his third hit of the day to go up 7-2.

The Clippers battled back in the seventh, when, after getting the first two batters to fly out, Shaun Anderson walked in a run and allowed a two-run double to cut the lead to two, though all three runs were unearned due to an error by Collins at first.

Anderson and Joe Biagini would combine to retire the side in the eighth, with Biagini staying on to close things out in the ninth to pick up the save and secure the win.

Despite Monday being the usual off day across the International League, the Herd will open up a six-game set in Rochester to take on the Red Wings tomorrow on Memorial Day, with Nick Allgeyer set to take on Cory Abbott. First pitch set for 4:05 p.m. EST.
