R'Dogs Benefit from Scoreboard Mistake; Defeat T's 4-2

Asheville Tourists News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - An odd occurrence during Thursday night's Asheville Tourists vs. Charleston RiverDogs game played a major role in the outcome; a 4-2 win by the RiverDogs. The scoreboard 'accidently' showed an extra out in the bottom of the fourth inning. The mistake caused a miscommunication between Tourists players and kept the inning alive when it should have ended. Charleston scored three of their four runs later in the frame.
With ONE out and a runner at first base, the scoreboard displayed TWO outs after a foul ball was mistakenly recorded as an out. Audie Afenir hit a groundball to Tourists second-baseman Carlos Herrera. It was as routine of a double-play ball as Asheville could have asked for and would have been the inning. Herrera flipped the ball to Brendan Rodgers covering second base for one but first-baseman Brian Mundell, thinking the third out of the inning was recorded at second base, began to jog to the dugout. No one was at first to receive the throw to complete the double-play.
The next three RiverDogs batters all recorded base hits and what was a 1-0 lead for the home team ballooned to a 4-0 advantage. The Tourists would never recover.
Asheville managed only three base-runners through the first eight innings of the game but did rally for two runs in the ninth. Rodgers hit a sacrifice fly and Mundell added an RBI groundout. Asheville was unable to bring the tying run to the plate.
RiverDogs' starter Christian Morris picked up the win with six shutout innings. The Tourists managed just one hit off the former Indiana Hoosier. Nestor Cortes worked the final three innings for Charleston and earned his second save of the season.
The Tourists finished with two hits in the game; a season-low. Mylz Jones had both hits; an infield single in the third and an infield single in the ninth. Asheville and Charleston are back at it on Friday night with a 7:05pm game at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park.
