ABOUT LAST GAME: The Augusta GreenJackets bested the Fireflies on Wednesday at Lake Olmstead Stadium, 7-3. Columbia lost two of three in the series. J.C. Rodriguez and Milton Ramos notched multi-hit games on Wednesday.
PURPLE GAME, PURPLE GAME: The Fireflies pay tribute to the Grammy-award winning artist Prince on Thursday, just two days after what would have been his 58th birthday. Prince, who passed away on April 21, has a storied past in Columbia. After playing a concert here in 2011, he worked closely with Mayor Steve Benjamin on a $250,000 donation to a local children's charity. "We are so excited to recognize the legacy of Prince with the Columbia Fireflies at Spirit Communications Park," Benjamin said. "Prince's contributions to the arts & to the causes of children & education in the City of Columbia will never be forgotten."
PURPLE RAIN JERSEYS: Fireflies players and coaches are wearing custom Purple Rain jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. Click here to bid on your favorite jersey. Proceeds go to the Palmetto Place Children's Shelter.
WHAT'S AT STAKE: Both Columbia and West Virginia sit in fifth place in their respective divisions. The Fireflies are six games behind Southern Division-leading Charleston with 11 left. The Power are 6.5 games back of Northern Division-leading Hagerstown with 12 left.
FAMILIAR FOE: The last time J.C. Rodriguez faced West Virginia, the switch-hitter had himself a series. Rodriguez hit .313 (5-16) in four games against the Power from May 26-29 and crushed his third home run of the season. The native of the Dominican Republic also drove in four runs.
THIS DATE IN METS HISTORY: Former Mets Manager Bobby Valentine's alter ego made an appearance at She Stadium in 1999.
