LEADING OFF: The West Virginia Power knocked off the Delmarva Shorebirds 7-2 on Wednesday night. The Power took a 2-0 lead in the first on a Logan Ratledge RBI single and a sac fly. The Shorebirds plated runs in the third and fifth to even the score, but West Virginia recaptured the lead for good with two in the bottom of the fifth. The Power added one in the sixth and two more in the seventh to close the scoring. Logan Sendelbach pitched six innings for the win, allowing both runs on three hits while striking out seven. Sean Keselica pitched the final three innings for his first save. Tito Polo and Mitchell Tolman had two hits apiece while Ratledge had the only multi-RBI game.
ON THE CLOCK: During the last three games series at Appalachian Power Park, the Power and Shorebirds played 38 innings spanning 11 hours and 47 minutes. Monday's 13 inning game lasted four hours and 51 minutes. Tuesday's 16 inning game matched the fourth longest in franchise history (innings-wise) and was the 11th longest (time) since 2005. It was the second 16 inning game for the Power this season (April 18 vs. Kannapolis).
GO FOR JAMO: Jameson Tallion was recalled by the Pittsburgh Pirates and made his Major League debut Wednesday against the New York Mets at PNC Park. Tallion, the second overall pick in 2010, worked a quality start in his debut, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings and did not factor in the decision. He went 2-3 for West Virginia in 2011 over 23 games, all starts, striking out 97 batters over 92 and two-thirds innings pitched and is the 51st former Power player to reach the Majors and second this season (Alen Hanson on May 16). Tallion was transferred back to Indianapolis earlier today.
JT THE MARAUDER: The Pirates promoted right-hander JT Brubaker to the Bradenton Marauders roster on Wednesday. Brubaker went 4-5 for the Power over 12 starts with a 3.48 earned run average. He also led the league in strikeouts at the time of this promotion with 77.
STAR STUDDED: The South Atlantic League announced its All-Stars on Tuesday and West Virginia will be represented by three players and trainer Dom Cappozzo. Mitch Keller was tabbed as the starting pitcher for the Northern Division roster and Tito Polo was chosen to start in left field. Ke'Bryan Hayes was also selected as a reserve infielder. The 2016 South Atlantic League All-Star Game will be played in Lexington on June 21.
VIVA VIVAS: Julio Vivas was added back to the Power roster from Extended Spring Training Wednesday when JT Brubaker was promoted to Bradenton. The right-hander is
STILL GOING: John Bormann's 18 game on-base streak is the longest by any Power player this season and is also the longest active such streak in the South Atlantic League. The Power catcher has reached safely in every game he has played this season.
POWER POINTS: Mitchell Tolman's on-base streak has reached 17 in a row... Christian Kelley's three hit game Monday was his sixth multi-hit game this season but first with more than two... Monday's 13 inning loss was the first extra inning loss by West Virginia this season... Logan Ratledge entered play Wednesday without a run batted in over 17 games this season. The utility player drove in two in the win.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost 6-5 in 10 innings. Jeurys Familia struck out David Freese with the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth to seal the win... Indianapolis lost 3-2 to Columbus in 10 innings... Erie beat Altoona 7-1. Brandon Waddell allowed four runs on 10 hits in the loss... Bradenton's game with Tampa was suspended in the fifth inning due to rain.
PROMO UPDATE: The Power host the Charleston RiverDogs on June 16. FestivALL, the 10 day celebration of arts in the city, will hold their opening ceremonies at Appalachian Power Park. The evening is also Garnet Career Center Night and will be followed by a post game concert from Tyler Childers and Ona.
