Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
SALISBURY, MD - Nataenal Delgado's home run in the bottom of the 10th gave Delmarva a walk-off 2-1 win over the BlueClaws on Thursday night at Perdue Stadium in the first game of their four-game series.
Delgado's home run, his second of the year, came off Luis Morales (0-2), who had retired the first six hitters he faced. It was the first walk-off home run allowed by the BlueClaws since Jordan Arenado of Augusta on April 30, 2015. It was the fourth walk-off loss by the BlueClaws this year, and second at Delmarva.
The game was in extra innings because Jiandido Tromp of Lakewood homered off Christian Turnipseed leading off the top of the ninth with the BlueClaws trailing 1-0. It was Tromp's 7th home run of the year and 16th since the All-Star break last year.
The loss snaps the BlueClaws three-game winning streak and puts them at 23-36 on the season. Delmarva improves to 6-3 against the BlueClaws and 33-25 on the season.
Delmarva got the game's first run in the third inning. Franklyn Kilome had retired the first two hitters he faced, but then walked two in a row before an RBI single to center by Ryan Mountcastle to put Delmarva up 1-0.
The BlueClaws had two runners thrown out on the bases in the fourth inning, with Emmanuel Marrero and Josh Tobias each thrown out trying to steal second base by Delmarva catcher Yermin Merceds.
Lakewood threatened in the sixth when, with two out and none on, Ofelky Peralta walked three straight hitters to load the bases. Delmarva went to the pen, bringing on Garret Cleavinger, and Cleavinger got Jose Pujols to pop out to second base to end the inning.
Kilome came out after a career long seven innings, and he struck out two in the seventh for a new career high with nine strikeouts in the game. Delmarva starter Ofelky Peralta gave up three hits and five walks over 5.2 scoreless innings.
Elias Pinales (2-0), who gave up two hits but no runs in the 10th, earned the win.
Jan Hernandez had his second straight two-hit game for the BlueClaws.
The series with Delmarva continues on Friday night at 7:05. RHP Drew Anderson (0-1) starts for the BlueClaws against LHP Brian Gonzalez (5-2).
