Rays Trade Cool Ray to Riverdogs for Future Considerations
March 23, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC South Carolina Stingrays President Taylor Lee announced today that Cool Ray, the Stingrays mascot has been traded to the Charleston Riverdogs, the South Atlantic League Affiliate of the New York Yankee's for future considerations, believed to be Charlie the Riverdog. The Stingrays expect to acquire Charlie prior to Saturday's Dodge Baseball Night against the Charlotte Checkers.
"For baseball night, we needed a mascot that was a bit more experienced on the diamond than Cool Ray," commented Lee. "Cool Ray would literally be a fish out of water on baseball night, we needed to move him and pick up a baseball mascot."
The Stingrays will host the Charlotte Checkers in their first ever "Baseball Night" on Saturday, March 26th at 7:05 at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Rays will be wearing pin striped Riverdogs baseball uniforms during the game, which will be auctioned off following the contest.
A night of baseball promotions will include, but not be limited to a first puck "thrown" by the mayor, ballpark music, baseball trivia, a second period stretch, and much more.
The Riverdogs will be hosting a Stingrays Hockey Night, during the baseball season during which they will wear Stingrays baseball jerseys.
The new voice of the Riverdogs, Josh Maurer will broadcast the hockey game, and the Stingrays voice, Darren Abbott will handle the broadcast duties during Stingrays hockey night at the Joe.
The game will also feature a performance by the "Zooperstars" including a rendition of take me out to the ball game sung by Harey Canary, a Zooperstar.
Fans are encouraged to wear baseball caps and gloves to catch pucks and t-shirts in the crowd.
"We are truly excited about this cross promotion with the Riverdogs," added Lee. "We see this growing into a big night each year during both the hockey and the baseball schedule."
The Stingrays have three home games remaining in the regular season. They will play at home on March 26th against Charlotte, and April 1st and 2nd against Florida and Augusta.
