Kelly Cup Tour Heads West To Golden State

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Second-Annual Kelly Cup Tour visits California this weekend stopping in Bakersfield on Friday and Saturday before traveling to Long Beach on Sunday.

It is the first time that the Kelly Cup has visited the Golden State, but it won't be the last as the Tour will return on April 8 and 9 to Fresno.

The trip from last Saturday's stop in North Charleston, S.C. to Bakersfield is 2,511 miles, making it the longest distance traveled between the 11 cities on the 51-day Tour that covers 7,034 miles and eight states.

Each of the 28 ECHL cities were given the opportunity to host the Kelly Cup which on its inaugural tour in 2004 traveled 7,543 miles in 44 days while visiting 10 ECHL cities in eight states. The Tour opened February 18 in Reading and has already made stops in Charlotte, Columbia, North Charleston, Toledo, Mississippi and Florida.

The Kelly Cup will return home in a manner of speaking when it heads to the Bank of America Centre in Boise, home of the defending Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads, on April 1 and 2.
