Gators Dramatics down Pride 2-1

Lafayette, LA- With under 3:30 remaining in the game, Jim Shepherd and Roger Leonard scored goals 28 seconds apart, while Nathan Marsters stopped 37 of 38 Pee Dee shots, to power the Gators to a come from behind 2-1 win over the Pride.

     Goaltenders Nathan Marsters of Louisiana and Nick Boucher of the Pee Dee Pride hooked up in a individual duel for 2 1/2 periods before either team could dent the twine. At 12:29 of the 3rd period, while on the power play, Allan Sirois (17) took the puck off a scramble in front and put a near post wrist shot past Nathan Marsters to give the Pride 1-0 lead. Kyle Kidney outdueled two Gators in front of the net to get the puck to Sirois. With just 3:24 remaining the Gators tied the score. Jake Ortmeyer's wrist shot toward the net was tipped by Chris Thompson to Jim Shepherd. The veteran rammed the puck past Nick Boucher for the power play goal, his 12th of the season at 16:36. It took only 28 seconds for Louisiana to get the game winner. Shawn Skiehar making a perfect cross ice pass to Roger Leonard on the left wing. The right handed rookie caught the puck on the backhand, moved it to his forehand and slid it under a lunging Boucher for the game winner. Joe Dustin receiving the other assist on Leonard's 7th of the season and 1st game winner as a pro.

    With the win, Louisiana's record is now 22-35-5, 50 points and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot by PeeDee 38-26. Power plays were 1-2 for the Gators and 1-1 for the Pride.

The Gators next game is Friday night March 25, when the Gators travel to Biloxi to take on their arch rivals, the Mississippi Sea Wolves at 7:35. ALL games the remainder of the season can be heard on 960am "The Gator".
