Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

BATTLE CREEK, MI -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers could not hold a late lead and fell 3-2 to the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays. On Wednesday night at C.O. Brown Stadium, the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to keep the Rattler slide going.

Wisconsin (29-55 overall, 2-12 second half) got out in front with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Jeff Flaig knocked in the first run with a single. Catcher Travis Scott followed with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 advantage. But the Rattler offense would barely threaten for the rest of the game.

Rattler starter Nick Allen kept the Devil Rays (38-45, 6-8) off the board until the bottom of the fifth inning. Neil Walton doubled with two outs. Jason St. Clair followed with another double to send Walton across the plate and the Rattler lead was down to a run.

That was the only run that Allen gave up on the night. He went seven innings, did not walk a batter, and struck out four. But, he would not be involved in the decision.

Harold Williams entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Devil Rays loaded the bases with no outs on a bunt single, a walk, and an infield single. Williams struck out Rhyne Hughes for the first out of the inning, but strike three got away from Scott and the tying run scored from third. Williams struck out the next batter, but walked Christian Lopez to reload the bases.

Brennan worked the count full and took ball four to force home the go ahead run.

Scott doubled with two out in the top of the ninth to put the tying run in scoring position for the Rattlers. But, Greg Dupas recorded a strikeout for the final out. Southwest Michigan has won five straight games.

The final game of this eight game road trip is Thursday night. Ruben Flores (1-7, 5.93ERA) gets the ball for the Rattlers. Marinette, Wisconsin native Greg Reinhard (2-6, 5.38ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Devil Rays. Game time is 6:05pm CDT.
