Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays showed that they can win a tight game tonight. The Rays trailed until the eighth inning and rallied to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers by a score of 3 to 2.
Mike Wlodarczyk pitched through the fifth inning and struck out three while allowing six hits and a pair of earned runs. The Timber Rattlers scored their only two runs of the game in the second inning.
The Rays gained a point back in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Neil Walton slapped a double to left field. The next batter, Jason St. Clair, then double to right field to score Walton from second.
Jeff Kamrath entered in the sixth inning and tossed two innings. Kamrath fanned one batter and gave up one hit. Kevin Lynn and Greg Dupas hurled the eighth and ninth frames respectively. They each gave up one hit a piece with Dupas getting a strikeout.
In the bottom of the eighth the rally caps were on at C.O. Brown and they worked. Harold Williams entered the game for the Timber Rattlers and couldn't find the plate. Jason St. Clair led off with a beautiful bunt down the first base line and won the footrace to the bag. Cesar Suarez then walked moving St. Clair to second. J.T. Hall followed with a single past the shortstop to load the bases. With Rhyne Hughes batting, Williams tossed a wild pitch that advanced all runners to tie the game at two a piece. Hughes eventually struck out, as did Colt Simmons who followed. Williams then walked Christian Lopez and Jackson Brennan to move Suarez across home plate for the winning run.
The Rays have now won five in a row and look to make it six before they head back on the road. Thursday night is Thirsty Thursday. Thirsty Thursday features your favorite Pepsi fountain pop or draft beer for only $1. After the game there will be a live concert in the TDS Metrocom Left Field Bar by the band "Hazy Jane".
