
Vasquez out-pitches ERA leader in \'Caps seventh straight win

LANSING - Sendy Vasquez pitched six shutout innings and Justin Justice had four RBI as the Whitecaps won their seventh game in a row, 5-1 at Lansing. West Michigan defeated Midwest League earned run average leader Aaron Tressler, who came into the game with a 1.81 ERA.
The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning when Cameron Maybin led off with a single. He stole second and third then scored on a two-out double by Dusty Ryan that broke the tie and put the Whitecaps in front, 1-0.
Two batters later, Justin Justice clubbed a three-run homer to right for a 4-0 West Michigan lead. All four runs were charged to Tressler, who pitched 5.2 innings. All of the Whitecaps runs in the game scored with two out.
Justice added an RBI single in the eighth inning. Ryan scored following his second double of the night.
Vasquez survived four walks in the first three innings and at one point retired nine batters in a row. The right hander has won three consecutive starts to return to .500 at 6-6.
Josh Kauten gave up the only Lansing run of the night. Josh Bell tripled to start the seventh off Kauten then came home on a ground out by Yuber Rodriguez.
Kauten earned a three-inning save.
The Whitecaps are one win shy of matching a team record nine consecutive road victories, which has been achieved twice: 1994 and 1996.
