Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OH- Fifth Third Field will host Dan Lanham from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield's "Home Run for Life" program when the Dayton Dragons take on the Swing of the Quad Cities on Friday, July 7th at 7 p.m.

The Dayton Dragons and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield have teamed up for a third season of the "Home Run for Life" program honoring individuals who have beaten life-threatening conditions. Doctors discovered a heart murmur in Dan Lanham during a routine visit, and further tests revealed that he needed aortic valve replacement surgery. Just two weeks later, Dan had open-heart surgery. What made this surgery so special was that Dan agreed to have the surgery broadcast by satellite feed to almost 300 health care professionals in and around Dayton.

The surgery was a huge success-Dan is quickly recovering, and hundreds of medical experts were able to witness the life saving techniques of the surgery. Dan's already jogging two miles a day, but on Friday night, his jog will only be 360 feet-around the bases at Fifth Third Field.

During an inning break, Dan will take a ceremonial lap around the bases signifying his "home run for life." As he rounds third base, the Dayton Dragons players will be lined up to offer high fives as Dan makes his way towards home plate. Upon crossing the plate, Dan will be greeted by Dragons manager Billy Gardner, who will present him with a certificate making him an honorary Dayton Dragon.

Dan will be joined at Fifth Third Field with several family members and many of the Dayton Heart Hospital doctors and nurses that performed Dan's surgery and follow-up procedures.
