Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - Justin Justice went 3-for-4 with four RBI as the West Michigan Whitecaps dropped the Lansing Lugnuts 5-1 at Oldsmobile Park Wednesday night before 1,981 fans. The loss is the fourth straight for Lansing, while the Whitecaps have won seven consecutive games.
West Michigan's Sendy Vazquez and Lansing's Aaron Tressler were locked in a scoreless pitchers duel through five innings before the Whitecaps were able to break through for four runs in the sixth.
Cameron Maybin singled and then swiped both second and third base. Dusty Ryan then ripped a double into the right field corner to score Maybin. The run made the game 1-0.
After Mike Hollimon was hit by a pitch, Justice cracked a three run shot to right field to make it a 4-0 game.
Lansing plated its only run in the seventh inning when Josh Bell tripled off of the right field wall and scored on a Yuber Rodriguez groundout to make it 4-1.
The Whitecaps got the run back in the eighth when Ryan again doubled and scored on a Justice single to make it 5-1.
Vazquez (6-6) got the win for West Michigan, throwing six innings and allowing just three hits while fanning seven.
Tressler (5-3) took the loss for Lansing, tossing 5 2/3 innings and surrendering four runs on eight hits.
Josh Kauten notched his first save of the season by throwing the final three frames.
