Rattlers Shore Up Line: Sign Veteran Sharp, Re-Sign Amey

Phoenix, AZ - The Arizona Rattlers have signed veteran OL/DL Jerry Sharp and re-signed OL/DL Vince Amey, the team announced today. Sharp will begin his eleventh season in the Arena Football League, having spent the last two in New York with new Rattlers Coach Todd Shell. Amey joined Arizona in week eight last season, and helped the team to their third consecutive ArenaBowl appearance. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Sharp (6-3, 325, Syracuse) began his career with the Orlando Predators in 1993, and has had stops in Nashville, New England, Carolina, New Jersey, and Buffalo in addition to his time with the Dragons. During his ten-year career, Sharp has recorded 98.5 tackles, ten sacks and an interception in 113 games. Sharp was a member of the Syracuse team that won the Fiesta Bowl in 1995. Sharp is the first member of the Dragons to join Coach Shell in Arizona.
Amey (6-3, 300, Arizona State) will begin his fifth season in the AFL, after spending his first three years with the Los Angeles Avengers. Amey made six tackles and recovered a fumble in his eight games as a Rattler last season, and helped solidify the defensive line. A member of the 1997 Sun Devil squad that earned a Pac-10 title and a berth in the Rose Bowl, Amey was a three-year starter for the Devils on the defensive line.
"By adding Jerry and keeping Vince, we add a lot of veteran leadership to our line," said GM Gene Nudo. "Jerry played with Todd in New York, so we know first hand what kind of a player we are getting, and Vince came in last year and immediately made our line better. We signed two quality players."
