
Columbus Destroyers announce 2005 schedule

COLUMBUS, OH â The Columbus Destroyers and Arena Football League announced the 2005 regular season schedule today and the Destroyers will open their second season in Columbus on Friday, January 28 against the expansion Nashville Kats at Nationwide Arena as the Drive to ArenaBowl XIX Las Vegas begins.
The Destroyers' schedule, which features eight home and eight away games, spans 17 weeks that includes a bye in Week 2. The Destroyers have six games scheduled to air live on NBC Sports.
"Our fans, which were tremendous in our first season, will get the opportunity to enjoy the fast-paced and exciting AFL action with a fan-friendly schedule," said Destroyers President David Paitson. "Six of our eight home games occur on Friday or Saturday night as compared to just four last season."
As members of the Eastern Division, the Destroyers will face each of their division rivals (Dallas, New York and Philadelphia) twice. Columbus opens up the divisional schedule on Sunday, February 13 when the team travels to Dallas to face the Desperados before back-to-back divisional contests at home, first with the New York Dragons, led by former Destroyers defensive coordinator Weylan Harding, on Saturday, March 26 followed by Jon Bon Jovi's Philadelphia Soul coming to Nationwide Arena on Sunday, April 3. The Destroyers will then face the Desperados at home on Friday, April 22 to close the two-game season series followed by consecutive divisional road games with the Dragons on Saturday, May 7 followed by the Soul on Sunday, May 15.
Schedule highlights include a week-seven meeting with the Las Vegas Gladiators on Saturday, March 12 as former Destroyers offensive specialist CoCo Blalock and lineman Wilky Bazile make their return to Columbus alongside the AFL's 2004 Offensive Player of the Year Marcus Nash. The Destroyers will close out the season on Sunday, May 22 hosting the five-time ArenaBowl champion Tampa Bay Storm.
Auditions for the BOMBSHELLS, the Destroyers' official dance team will begin on Tuesday, November 2 at Nationwide Arena. For more information, visit www.ColumbusDestroyers.com.
