Soul announce 2005 schedule

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League released their 2005 schedule today with the team slated to open in Austin, TX against the Wranglers on Sunday, January 30 at 12 p.m. Philadelphia fans will get their first glimpse of newly acquired star quarterback Tony Graziani at the Wachovia Center when the Soul host the expansion Nashville Kats on Sunday, February 13 at 3 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on NBC, as a league-high 14 Soul games are scheduled to be aired on the network.

All eight of the Soul's home games are scheduled to be played on Sunday afternoon and at the Wachovia Center, with seven of the eight contests to be broadcast on NBC.

The Soul will play a home-and-home series with each of their divisional opponents: the Dallas Desperados (NBC), New York Dragons (NBC) and Columbus Destroyers (NBC). Also highlighting the Soul's home schedule are 2004 playoff qualifiers Tampa Bay Storm (NBC) and Orlando Predators (NBC). Match-ups with the Grand Rapids Rampage and Las Vegas Gladiators (NBC) round out the home slate.

"Rock vs. Jock - Rumble in the House II" will be set in Colorado this year when the Soul square off with John Elway's Crush on Sunday, April 10. The Soul also visit ArenaBowl XVIII Champions San Jose SaberCats and 2004 postseason contestants Chicago Rush and New Orleans VooDoo.

The January 28 start-date is the earliest ever for the AFL. The regular-season schedule was moved up two weeks and begins during the open week of the NFL playoffs. The AFL's second week takes place the weekend of February 4-6, including regional games on NBC on Super Bowl Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

The 2005 AFL season will consist of 17 teams – including the expansion Kats.
