Las Vegas, NV, October 27, 2004 â The Las Vegas Gladiators open their third season in Las Vegas by taking on Western Division rival the Los Angeles Avengers at the Thomas & Mack Center on Sunday, January 30, 2005. Kickoff for the 2005 season opener is 12:00 PM PT and the game will be televised nationally on NBC.
The Gladiators will face two consecutive Western Division opponents as they travel to San Jose in week two to take on the defending ArenaBowl champion SaberCats.
"We have two division rivals right off the bat, so we need to come out firing on all cylinders," said Gladiators head coach Ron James. "We are on a relentless pursuit to make this season a championship year here in Las Vegas and we feel that we have put together a roster that will compete with anyone in the league."
The 2005 AFL schedule was released by the league office today. The Gladiators will play eight home games and eight road contests during the 17-week regular season. The Gladiators' will have a bye in week 13.
ArenaBowl XIX is scheduled for June 12, 2005, at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Gladiators will host Western Division opponents Arizona, Los Angeles and San Jose at the Thomas & Mack Center while also entertaining Austin, Dallas, Georgia, Grand Rapids and New York.
The Gladiators 2005 road schedule features three in-division games at Los Angeles, Arizona and San Jose as well as trips to Chicago, Colorado, Columbus, Nashville and Philadelphia.
On Sunday, February 27, the Gladiators will travel to Music City, USA, to take on the expansion Nashville Kats. The Kats, owned by Tennessee Titans' owner Bud Adams, will play in the AFL's Eastern Division in 2005.
Gladiators training camp opens in Las Vegas on January 5.
