Kats Announce Schedule For 2005 Season
October 27, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Nashville Kats News Release
NASHVILLE (Oct. 27, 2004) â The Nashville Kats will open their inaugural season on the road against the Columbus Destroyers on Fri., Jan. 28, before making their home debut at the Gaylord Entertainment Center a week later. The team's entire 16-game 2005 schedule was released Wednesday by the Arena Football League office.
After traveling to Columbus for their first game, the Kats will play the first arena football contest in Nashville in almost four years on Fri., Feb. 4, when they play host to the New Orleans Voodoo. That matchup will mark the first of eight home games for the team, which will compete in the AFL's Central Division, against 2004 playoff teams Chicago and Colorado, as well as Grand Rapids.
In addition to the home opener against New Orleans and the games against the three division opponents, Nashville will play host to the Las Vegas Gladiators, the Arizona Rattlers, the Los Angeles Avengers and the Tampa Bay Storm. Of the eight home dates, the Kats are scheduled to play on one Friday night, two Saturday nights, four Sunday afternoons and one Monday night. All game dates and times are subject to change.
The Kats have been slotted to play in as many as four games which will be nationally-televised on NBC, including three at home. NBC has made preliminary selections to air Kats games at Philadelphia on Feb. 13, then at home against Los Angeles on April 17, Tampa Bay on April 24 and Chicago on May 22. Nationally-televised games are subject to change, and a complete television schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
In addition to playing at Columbus in the season opener and at their division rivals, the Kats will also travel to Philadelphia, New York, Dallas and San Jose in their inaugural campaign.
The Nashville Kats will convene their first training camp in January. The expansion franchise, owned by Tennessee Titans owner K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr., will keep the name and identity of the previous Nashville Kats arena football franchise, which played in the AFL from 1997-2001. Tickets are available by phone at 615-565-4700, or through Katsonline.com.
