Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The wait was worth it. Saturday's scheduled home opener for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers was postponed due to poor weather. On Sunday, the Rattlers picked up a win in their first home game of the season with a 4-2 victory over the Beloit Snappers in game one of a double header. Troy Stokes, Jr. led the way with three hits, including two doubles. Tucker Neuhaus had a big three-run double to give the Rattlers a lead they would not relinquish.
Wisconsin (1-2) broke in front in the bottom of the third inning. Carlos Belonis started the inning with a single and Troy Stokes, Jr. followed with a double. The Snappers elected to walk Isan Diaz intentionally with one out to load the bases. Tucker Neuhaus spoiled the strategy by lining a double to left-center to clear the bases and give the Rattlers a 3-0 lead.
Beloit (2-1) got a run back in the top of the fourth as Chris Iriart drove in a run with a one-out single.
The Snappers pulled to within a run in the fifth. Trace Loehr singled and Jose Chavez followed with an infield single. An error on the play allowed both runners to move up a base. Perrin got the first out with a strikeout. The second out was a bit more adventurous. Jesus Lopez sent a hard grounder up the middle of the diamond. Second baseman Tucker Neuhaus made a diving back-handed grab and threw from his knees to first to retire Lopez. Loehr scored on the play, but Chavez only made it to third. Perrin ended the inning by getting Brett Siddal to fly out to center.
Stokes figured into an insurance run in the Wisconsin fifth. He started the inning with his second double of the game. Monte Harrison moved Stokes to third with a bunt. Beloit starter James Naile balked with Diaz at the plate to allow Stokes to score for a 4-2 advantage.
David Lucroy took over for Perrin to start the sixth inning. He worked around a one-out double in the sixth and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to close out Wisconsin's first win of the season.
