Burlington Bees News Release
(Peoria-IL) - Tanner Lubach's three run home run was not enough for the Burlington Bees (1-2) who saw their 3-1 lead disappear, losing 4-3 to the Peoria Chiefs in the series finale, Sunday night in Peoria at Dozer Park.
For the second straight day, the Peoria Chiefs took the lead in the first inning. Eliezer Alvarez put the Chiefs in front with a solo homer to right, to lead off the inning, making the score 1-0.
Juan Moreno started the top of the fourth inning by reaching on a Peoria Chiefs error. With two runners on an one out, Tanner Lubach collected his first hit of the season, a three run home run to left, giving the Bees a 3-1 lead. The three run third was the Bees third three run inning of the weekend.
Peoria inched closer in the sixth inning when Edmundo Sosa led off the frame with a double. After pop out and a walk, Ryan McCarvel ripped a double into right field, scoring Sosa, cutting the Bees lead to 3-2.
Craig Aikin doubled to lead off the bottom of the seventh and then would come home to score on an Alvarez sacrifice fly, tying the game at three. The doubles kept coming for Peoria as Leobaldo Pina doubled, the sixth one of the game for Peoria, with one out to start the bottom of the ninth inning. After an Aikin single put runners at the corners, Thomas Spitz singled to left, driving in Pina winning the game for the Chiefs, 4-3.
Bees starting pitcher Grayson Long pitched well for the Bees, working five innings, allowing just one run on one hit, striking out seven. Luke Harrison (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Chiefs while Adam Hofacket (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Bees.
The Bees return home on Monday night at 6:30 when they host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for Dollar Monday. Ronnie Glenn makes the start for the Bees. For tickets, visit gobees.com or stop by the Bees' office. For more information, call 319-754-5705.
