Norfolk Admirals News Release

The Admirals saw their four-game winning streak halted in Albany as the River Rats defeated Norfolk 4-3.

A busy first period saw the Admirals score on their first shot. Milan Bartovic skated in from the neutral zone over the Albany blue line. He sent a wrist shot from just before the face-off circle that beat Albany goaltender Frank Doyle's glove at 1:47. Five minutes later, Martin St. Pierre skated along the boards to the left of Doyle and sent a wrister from near the hash marks of the face-off circle. The shot beat Doyle high on the blocker side at 6:23 to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead. However, the River Rats controlled the rest of the first period. Twenty-six seconds after the St. Pierre tally, David Clarkson deflected a Krisjanis Redlihs shot past Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford. Ten minutes later, Dan McGillis sent a slap shot from the point that beat Crawford for a five-on-three power play goal. Just 24 seconds later while Albany had a five-on-four man-advantage, Redlihs scored with another drive from the blue line at 16:33. The Admirals headed to the locker room trailing the River Rats 3-2 after twenty minutes.

The River Rats got the only goal of the second period on a power play, as Tuomas Pihlman scored off a feed from Clarkson at 10:22. Albany took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.

The Admirals were able to close to within one goal of tying when Mark Cullen scored a power play tally with 30 seconds remaining. However, they were unable to get the equalizer and fell by the final score of 4-3.

Corey Crawford stopped 32 of 36 shots and was saddled with the loss. Frank Doyle made 32 saves on 35 Admirals' shots and picked up the win.

Norfolk was 1-7 on the power play while Albany was 3-10.
