P-Bruins To Hold Fundraiser Friday
January 18, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced that they are teaming up with Sovereign Bank to raise funds on behalf of an elderly Providence woman, Madeline Walker, who had temporarily lost her home. The fundraiser will be held at the P-Bruins game on Friday, January 20 at 7:05 p.m. versus the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
Mrs. Walker is an 81-year-old woman who had been evicted from her home last month over an unpaid sewer bill. After her eviction, Providence Attorney Joe Rodio led a successful effort to recapture Mrs. Walker's home. Governor Carcieri announced a tax-sale bill in Mrs. Walker's name Tuesday that would prevent homeowners from unknowingly losing their properties to tax lien sales.
Volunteers from Sovereign Bank will be on hand to collect donations at the door and a game worn jersey raffle will be held during the game. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to help Mrs. Walker with outstanding bills, homecare and for her well being as she adjusts to being reinstated in her home.
"The Providence Bruins are proud to help Mrs. Walker and at the same time help the Governor's office raise awareness of this issue and what is being done to protect other people in Mrs. Walker's situation," said Providence Bruins Team President Matt Poore.
The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, January 20 to face the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:05 p.m. The first 4,000 fans will receive FREE Providence Bruins hats courtesy of your Rhode Island Lottery. Tickets for all P-Bruins home games are available online at providencebruins.com, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center box office and at all TicketMaster outlets. For more information, please contact the Bruins' ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log on to the team website.
