Edmonton Reassigns Forward

January 18, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Edmonton Road Runners News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced today that the Edmonton Oilers have recalled right wing Zack Stortini from the Iowa Stars and reassigned him to the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL).

Drafted by the Edmonton Oilers with their fifth choice, 94th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Stortini registered the first goal in Iowa Stars franchise history. The Elliot Lake, Ontario native's first professional goal and the Stars first goal came at 18:05 of the first period on Oct. 6th vs. the Peoria Rivermen.

"This decision was made by Edmonton in an effort to create more ice time for Zack," said Scott White, Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations. "Due to the depth of our roster, there were times where Zack was the odd-man out of the line up. Edmonton saw an opportunity to get some more playing time for Zack in Milwaukee, and decided that was the direction they wanted to go."

The 20-year old departs the Iowa Stars with two goals, one assist, a ‘plus 6' rating and the team leader with 108 penalty minutes in 27 games: 27(2/1/3)+6, 108.

NEXT THREE GAMES: The Iowa Stars play in Grand Rapids tonight against the Griffins. Iowa then returns home for the first two games of a five-game home-stand. The Stars welcome the Chicago Wolves back to Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, January 20th on 4 for $40 night! Junior Lessard will also be presented with his AHL Award for earning the Player of the Week. The following night, the 21st, join local area mascots in celebrating SHOOTER'S FIRST BIRTHDAY! The first 5,000 fans will receive a Shooter Bobblehead. All ticketing information can be obtained by calling 515-23-STARS or by visiting iowastarshockey.com.
