Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Travis Blackley from the Houston Astros on Wednesday. The southpaw will be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock.

Texas received Blackley, 30, in exchange for cash considerations after he was outrighted by Houston on Saturday. Blackley will not hold a spot on the 40-man roster. He was designated for assignment in spring training by Oakland and sent to the Astros via trade on April 4, opening the season on the 15-day DL with a left shoulder strain.

Blackley made one rehab appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City before being reinstated on the Astros' active roster from April 20-August 8. After being designated for assignment on Friday and outrighted to Oklahoma City on Saturday, Blackley did not appear in a game for the RedHawks.

In 42 appearances out of Houston's bullpen this season, Blackley went 1-1 with a 4.89 ERA (19 ER/35.0 IP) while punching out 29. He held left-handers to a .200 average (12-for-60) and all opponents to a .234 (30-for-128) clip. Blackley has pitched in the major leagues for four differed organizations (Seattle, San Francisco, Oakland and Houston). He is 8-8 with a 5.28 ERA (104 ER/177.1 IP) in 78 career games in the major leagues with two wins coming at Rangers Ballpark and four against Texas.
