Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express have made a pair of roster moves prior to tonight's game against the Tacoma Rainiers (Triple-A, Seattle Mariners). Catcher Eli Whiteside was placed on the disabled list while catcher Zach Zaneski was transferred to Round Rock from Double-A Frisco.
Zaneski, 27, has spent the entire season at Frisco, batting .191 (30-for-157) with five doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI in 45 games. He's compiled six multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games. He spent time at Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2009, going 3-for-10 (.300) in four games. The Connecticut native played collegiate baseball at the University of Rhode Island where he was a two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection and recipient of the Rick Ligi Team MVP honor as a senior. He was signed as a free agent by the Rangers on June 13, 2008.
Whiteside compiled a .175 batting average (35-200) in 61 games with the Express this season. He was 5-for-19 (.263) over his last six games. This is Whiteside's second stint on the DL this season, having spent time on the shelf July 24 - 31. He was claimed off waivers by the Rangers from Toronto on December 12, 2012.
