Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Papillion, Ne.---Omaha Storm Chasers (62-63) right fielder Anthony Seratelli (11) belted a home run to right field in the bottom of the first inning in what turned out to be the only run of the contest in a 1-0 Wednesday afternoon win over the Fresno Grizzlies (58-66) at Werner Park. Seratelli delivered the game-deciding clout with two out against Fresno right-handed starter Yusmeiro Petit (5-6).
It was a tough-luck loss for Petit who retired 18-of-the-first-19 batters. He ended up with an eight-inning complete game. Including the home run, he gave up four hits, one run (earned), he had no walks, and struck out six.
Fresno had chance after chance. The Grizzlies left 11 runners on base, and were never set down in order. The closest the Grizzlies came to scoring was in the fifth inning when they had the bases loaded and one out. Left fielder Francisco Peguero lifted a fly ball to right field which Seratelli caught. Grizzlies center fielder Gary Brown tagged from third but was thrown out at the plate.
Right-handed starter Yordano Ventura (5-3) earned the win for Omaha. He pitched six shutout innings, gave up six hits, five walks, and had four strikeouts. Right-hander Michael Mariot worked innings seven, and eight, and left-hander Will Smith (4) despite giving up a hit earned the save.
It was the second time on this road trip in which Fresno has been shutout, and the eighth time overall this season where they it has been blanked. The complete game for Petit was his first since last season with Fresno, and the second by a Grizzlie this year. Chris Heston pitched a nine-inning complete game shutout against Tucson on June 13th in Fresno. It was Omaha's eighth pitched shutout this season.
Fresno, which is now 2-5 on this road trip looks to salvage a split of the scheduled four-game series on Thursday night at Werner Park. Left-hander Eric Surkamp (4-1) will start for Fresno against Omaha left-handed probable Chris Dwyer (8-9). The first pitch will be at 5:05 PST.
