Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Today's Game: The RedHawks look to end a four-game losing skid as they play Tucson at 9:05 p.m. central time at Kino Stadium. The Padres have scored 20 runs over the first two games of the series.
Last Game: Tucson scored five runs in the first inning and went on to win 13-6 against the RedHawks Tuesday. The RedHawks took the first lead of the game in the top of the first inning when George Springer hit a two-run inside-the-park home run off the top of the batter's eye for a 2-0 lead. The Padres responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame. A sac fly by Jose Martinez in the third inning, along with RBI doubles by Jon Singleton and Marwin Gonzalez in the fourth, tied the game, 5-5. Later trailing, 7-5, in the sixth inning, RedHawks catcher Carlos Perez hit a two-out RBI single to cut Tucson's lead to one run. However, the Padres scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. RedHawks starting pitcher Asher Wojciechowski (7-6) allowed seven runs and eight hits over five innings. He struck out four and walked two.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Bobby Doran looks for his second win in as many starts...Doran (1-0) earned his first Triple-A win in his last start Aug. 9 in Las Vegas. He had a bumpy first inning, allowing three runs, but held the 51s scoreless over his next four frames. With the Hooks he was 8-2 with a 3.26 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 94.0 IP. At the time of his promotion, his ERA and 1.17 WHIP each ranked sixth in the Texas League...Doran was selected by Houston in the fourth round of the 2010 draft from Texas Tech University...Although this is his first career outing against Tucson, Doran had some trouble with the Padres Double-A affiliate in San Antonio this year, posting a 6.64 ERA and .348 opponent average over five starts.

They averaged about six runs per game and hit seven home runs...The RedHawks won three of four games during their only previous series at Kino Stadium, Aug. 7-10, 2011.
Roster Roulette: Recent roster turnover continued today. Following last night's game, shortstop Marwin Gonzalez was recalled to Houston and pitcher Jorge De Leon was optioned to Oklahoma City. De Leon threw 7.1 scoreless innings with the RedHawks before receiving his first big league call-up Aug. 7. He made two appearances with the Astros and allowed two runs and three hits over 1.2 IP. Earlier today the Astros traded pitcher Travis Blackley to the Texas Rangers in exchange for future considerations. Blackley had just reported to the RedHawks yesterday after being outrighted to OKC.
Slowing Their Roll: Following a 12-game winning streak, the RedHawks have dropped five of six on their current road trip. They have lost four straight games for the first time since losing five in a row May 23-26 (@Fresno/@Iowa).
Inside-the-Park Affinity: Between April 14, 2010 and July 23, 2013, the RedHawks never hit an inside-the-park home run. They have hit three since July 24, including one by George Springer last night -- his second since July 27.
Chasing the Crown: George Springer now leads all of Minor League Baseball with 32 homers this season. Springer also has 38 stolen bases and is the first player in the Minors to hit 30 home runs and steal at least 30 bases since former Oakland Athletics farmhand Grant Desme did so in 2009 (31 HR/40 SB).
The Laird Up There: Brandon Laird is 6-for-9 against Tucson with a two-run homer. He is batting .396 (19x48) in August and ranks first in the PCL with 18 RBI this month. (Five players tied for second with 11.)
As the Crowe Flies: Trevor Crowe is batting .469 (23x49) with three RBI during a 12-game hitting streak and now is hitting .407 (24x59) over 15 games since rejoining the team. Crowe also had a team-best 15-game hitting streak, April 6-21. He and Jimmy Paredes are the only two RedHawks this season to have two hitting streaks of at least 10 games.
Rough Road: Entering this road trip, the RedHawks had a 2.62 ERA as a team over the first 21 games following the All-Star Break. Over the first six games of the trip they've posted a 7.53 ERA (41 ER/49.0 IP) and opponents are batting .313 (61x195), including a .315 mark with runners in scoring position. They have also walked 30 batters and stuck out 41. The RedHawks had allowed 12 runs in a game twice all season before the trip, but have allowed at least 12 runs in a game twice over their past six contests, including a season-high 13 last night.
Recent Rebuttals: In the last eight innings in which the RedHawks scored, the opposition has scored in the bottom of the inning five times. The Padres answered with runs in their next at bat in three of the four times the RedHawks scored last night.
