River Cats Drop Game Three to Iowa Cubs

DES MOINES, Iowa - The River Cats lost game three of their four-game series against the Iowa Cubs by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Principal Park.

The I-Cubs took the lead in the first inning on a RBI fielder's choice by Edgar Gonzalez, and in the fifth inning, the lead was extended to 2-0 from a solo home run by Jae-Hoon Ha. In the eighth, a sacrifice fly from Daric Barton scored Hiro Nakajima, giving the River Cats their only run of the game as they eventually lost, 2-1.

River Cats starter Carlos Hernandez (0-1, 3.00 ERA) picked up the loss, allowing two runs on six hits in 6.0 innings of work. Andy Parrino went 2-for-3 with two singles, while Michael Taylor added his first triple on the season. The River Cats had four hits in all, including a 1-for-3 day at the plate from Nakajima.

The win was awarded to I-Cubs spot starter Casey Coleman, who allowed just one baserunner in five innings with five strikeouts, moving his record to 4-3 on the year. Brian Schlitter tallied his 17th save of the season, while Marcos Mateo and Zach Rosscup each recorded a hold.

The River Cats wrap up the series against the Cubs on Thursday, when right-hander Bruce Billings (12-5, 3.99 ERA) takes on lefty Brooks Raley (7-8, 4.34 ERA) at 10:05 a.m. at Principal Park.

The River Cats return home on Friday, Aug. 16 for a five-game set against the Tucson Padres in a homestand that will feature two fireworks shows, Kids Night Out, and a Mario Encarnacion bobblehead giveaway.
