
Rampage Slip Past Griffins in Overtime 5-4

GRAND RAPIDS (Feb. 13, 2015) - With his fourth overtime game-winning goal this season, Rocco Grimaldi gave the San Antonio Rampage (28-16-4-0) a 5-4 overtime victory against the Grand Rapids Griffins (25-18-4-1) in front of 7,168 at Van Andel Arena Friday night. With the win, the Rampage take the first decision of the season series and even up their Rodeo Road Trip record to 1-1 against their second opponent of the trip.
Late in the opening frame, a Rampage turnover resulted in the game's first goal from Grand Rapids' Teemu Pulkkinen, who notched his league-leading 28th goal of the year to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Brett Olson tied the game at one for the Rampage just 4:08 into the second stanza, as he beat Tom McCollum with a shot from the right circle. Bobby Butler took a pass from Jonathan Racine and wristed in a shorthanded goal to give San Antonio a 2-1 lead at 9:20, and Vincent Trocheck scored just 48 seconds later to extend the Rampage's lead to two. The Griffins cut the deficit to one with a goal from Andreas Athanasiou, but Garrett Wilson gave the Rampage back a two-goal lead at 18:52 to make it 4-2 at the conclusion of the second period.
The Griffins outscored the Rampage 2-0 in the third period, getting goals from Pulkkinen and Mark Zengerle to force overtime with the game knotted at four.
Rocco Grimaldi scored his fourth overtime game-winner of the season to seal a 5-4 win for San Antonio.
McCollum dropped his 10th all-time start against the Rampage, and Dan Ellis, in his 33rd start this season, made 36 saves on 40 shots, one save short of a season-high. The Rampage killed five of six man advantage opportunities for the Griffins.
KEY STAT
Bobby Butler extended his point streak to five games with a goal and an assist on the night. He is now tied for 9th with Yanik Lehoux with 91 points on the franchise's all-time scoring list.
With four second-period goals tonight, the Rampage have a league-leading 64 tallies this season in the middle frame.
Shane O'Brien is the first Rampage player to reach 100 plus penalty minutes in two seasons for the franchise with 101.
LINEUP NOTES
Ryan Martindale and Wade Megan drew back into the Rampage lineup tonight. Martindale skated on the second line, replacing Connor Brickley, and Megan played in replace of Tony Turgeon on the Rampage's fourth line.
Andrew Yogan skated in his 150th professional game and Grimaldi skated in his 50th professional game.
