NORFOLK, Va. - Jason LaBarbera and two power-play goals lifted the Norfolk Admirals' to a 2-0 triumph over the Syracuse Crunch on Friday night at Scope Arena.

Norfolk was the first team to grab the lead just 1:13 into the first period. The goal came during a power play as Nic Kerdiles skated the puck up the left side into the zone before dishing a pass towards the center. Emerson Etem reached back to tip the puck long across the slot, which Chris Wagner kicked towards the edge of the crease. Kerdiles circled to the far post and scooped a shot off Crunch netminder Kristers Gudlevskis to put the Admirals up 1-0.

The Admirals capitalized on the power play again in the second period. Stefan Noesen flipped a pass from the left boards across the center of the ice as Josh Manson entered the right circle. Noesen's feed landed on Manson's tape, and his wrister sailed into the top shelf over the shoulder of Gudlevskis at 18:42.

Despite some chances by the Crunch late in the third period with Gudlevskis pulled, the Admirals' defense stood tall and skated away with the 2-0 victory.

The Admirals went 2 for 7 on the man advantage. Syracuse was blanked on each of their five power play opportunities. Jason LaBarbera saved all 18 shots that he faced to earn his second shutout of the season. Gudlevskis denied 26 of the 28 shots directed at him.

Norfolk and Syracuse face off again tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. before the Admirals head out on a four-game road trip.
