
Monarchs Double up Falcons in 4-2 Win

MANCHESTER, N.H. - David Van Der Gulik, Zach O'Brien and Jordan Weal each had two-point nights as the Monarchs beat Springfield, 4-2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday.
The win tonight improves the Monarchs' (30-11-4-2) record against Springfield (28-18-4-0) to 2-1-1-0 and was the club's 30th win of the season.
"They [Weal, O'Brien and Van der Gulik] were really good tonight," Head Coach Mike Stothers said. "It's a great combination of three guys. I was happy to see them rewarded, not only with some goals, but there were other chances created by those guys."
The Monarchs opened the scoring at 4:54 of the opening period with a Nick Ebert slap shot from the point.
Manchester added to their lead with a goal from O'Brien at the 3:30 mark of the second period.
The Monarchs made it 3-0 with a goal from Van Der Gulik at the 7:48 mark of the second period with assists from O'Brien and Weal.
Springfield cut into the lead less than a minute later with a goal from Domenic Monardo at the 8:32 mark of the second period.
The Monarchs regained their three-goal lead with a power-play goal from Mike Richards at 16:16 of the second period.
Springfield answered right back at the 17:38 mark of the period with a goal from Mike Hoeffel.
The Monarchs return to action at the Verizon Wireless Arena tomorrow when they host Bridgeport at 3 p.m.
Notes:
The Monarchs improved to 13-0-0-0 at home when scoring first (16-1-0-0 overall). Manchester is undefeated (5-0-0-0) when Nick Ebert scores a goal this season. The Monarchs have won four of their last five games, with all four wins coming at home. With two assists tonight, Jordan Weal had his first multi-point game since Jan. 16 at Worcester. Tonight marked Scott Sabourin's 100th career game in the AHL.
