Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators held on for a 3-2 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms giving the B-Sens their first victory on the road over their newest division foe. Peter Mannino stopped 28 of 30 shots faced to guide Binghamton to the win.
Guillaume Lepine opened the scoring 2:12 into the first period with his first American Hockey League goal off an assist from Brad Mills. Binghamton managed to extend its lead to 2-0 when Matt Puempel knocked home his own rebound past Lehigh Valley's Rob Zepp for his 12th of the year with less than four minutes to play. The B-Sens appeared to be heading to the intermission with a two-goal lead but Nick Cousins sent a loose puck past Mannino with just over 1 second remaining making it just a 2-1 Binghamton lead at the break.
A penalty-filled second period gave way to a power-play goal from Shane Prince with just 36 seconds remaining which gave the B-Sens a 3-1 lead heading into the final intermission.
Brandon Manning cut Binghamton's lead to 3-2 on a power-play goal with less than 13 minutes to play in the third, however Mannino held strong, stopping 14 of 15 shots in the final 20 minutes of play to preserve the B-Sens 3-2 win.
Puempel finished with a goal and an assist to lead Binghamton offensively while Zepp stopped 29 of 32 shots faced in the losing effort.
