February 13, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Scott Wilson converted twice on the power play and Matt Murray turned aside all 23 shots he faced as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins extended their point streak to season-high five games (4-0-1-0) with a 3-0 win over the Portland Pirates on Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
A scoreless tie would finally be broken late in the second period after Wilkes-Barre/Scranton hopped on its second power play of the game. With 2:30 left until the intermission, Wilson whistled a wrist shot from the right circle that got by the glove of Pirates netminder Mike Lee.
The Penguins were back on the man-advantage early in the third and it was Wilson striking again at 2:41 of the period. From the near side of the Pirates zone, Conor Sheary sent a circle-to-circle pass that Wilson drilled to the back of the net for his 12th goal of the season.
Less than three minutes later, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton made it a 3-0 lead when Bryan Rust drove wide of the Portland defense and centered the puck to the near post, where Andrew was in position to knock in his 10th of the year. Also gathering an assist on the play, defenseman Brian Dumoulin set a regular season career high for points and assists in a game with three.
Murray's victory was his ninth over his last 11 starts as his record goes 14-8-2 on the season. The rookie goaltender leads the AHL with a 1.79 goals against average and six shutouts.
In his first start of the season for Portland, Lee took the loss as he made 20 saves on 23 shots.
The Penguins take the ice for their Pink in the Rink Night when they host the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 7:05 p.m. A special Pink in the Rink ticket offer is available with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the American Cancer Society.
