San Antonio Rampage News Release
ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia (October 10, 2009) - The San Antonio Rampage opened the new Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre in dramatic fashion with a 6-5 overtime victory over the Abbotsford Heat.
The Heat were the first to score in Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre with a Matt Pelech shot from the blue line that was deflected by Ryley Grantham for his first professional goal. John Negrin was credited with the second assist on Abbotsford's first goal at the 8:37 mark of the initial period.
Just over half way into the first frame, Matt Beleskey evened the score with the Rampage's first power-play goal of the season, a short side goal against Heat netminder Matt Keetley. David Schlemko and Kyle Turris were credited with the assists on Beleskey's first goal of the season.
The Heat opened the second period when Kris Chucko gained control of the puck along the left boards and squeaked the puck around Montoya's left leg at the 3:57 mark. Gord Baldwin and Brett Palin were credited with the assists on Chucko's first of a trio of goals. Less than five minutes later Chucko struck again when he caught a pass from Keith Seabrook in the slot and beat Montoya glove side to give the Heat a 3-1 advantage. Negrin tallied the second assist on the Heat's only power-play goal of the night.
Chad Kolarik added to the Rampage score when he gained control of the puck in the slot and beat Keetley at the 10:50 mark. Sean Sullivan and Kevin Porter were credited with the assists on Kolarik's second goal of the season.
The Heat ended the second period with a 4-2 advantage when Colin Stuart caught his own rebound and found the back of the net with Montoya sprawled on the ice. Former Rampage forward Garth Murray was credited with the assist on Stuart's shorthanded goal.
Less than three minutes into the third period Shaun Heshka fired a shot from the blue line to beat Keetley while on the man-advantage as Schlemko and Porter were credited with the assists on the Rampage's second power-play goal of the season to bring the Rampage within one at the 2:48 mark.
Thirty six seconds later Chucko completed his hat trick to put the Heat up 5-3 as Baldwin and David Van der Gulik picked up the assists.
Rookie Colin Long jump started the Rampage rally with just under 10 minutes left in the final frame off a turnover by Keith Aulie for Long's first professional goal.
Kolarik tied the game with 36 seconds left in regulation with the extra attacker to send the game to overtime. Sullivan received the assist on Kolarik's second goal of the night in which the Rampage peppered the Heat net with 15 shots to Abbotsford's two in the third stanza.
The Rampage managed eight shots to the Heat's three in overtime in which Sullivan's shot with six seconds left in the extra session proved to be the game winner giving the Rampage their third win of the season.
