Skille Recalled To Chicago, Hogs In Lake Erie Tonight

October 10, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release

Cleveland, Ohio.- The Rockford IceHogs have done two things in their first two games in 2009-10 that they didn't do during the entire 2008-09 season: lose in overtime and get shutout.

The IceHogs hope they don't hit another first tonight when they take on the Lake Erie Monsters at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland at 6:30 p.m. and that's start the season with three straight losses. The broadcast starts at 6 p.m. on 1330 AM, WNTA or on-line.

In its previous 10 seasons, Rockford has not started a season with three straight. The team game winless streak is just the third in 11 seasons for Rockford. The last time Rockford didn't pick up a win in its first two games was the beginning of the 2006-07 season.

One trend that Rockford does not want to end is the streak of road team winning in the Rockford-Lake Erie all-time series. The two teams have met six times and the road team has won all six meetings so far. This season the IceHogs and Monsters will match-up six times alone.

Tonight's game is the third of a season beginning five-game road swing that concludes on Wednesday against the Chicago Wolves. Rockford wraps up a three-game weekend tomorrow in Toronto against the Marlies.

Next Home Game: Friday, Oct. 16 vs. Chicago Wolves. Game time is 7:05 p.m. After five-straight road tilts to open the 2009-10 regular season the IceHogs return home to face the Wolves. The first 5,000 fans to the game will pick up an IceHogs wall calendar from Maverick Media and 23 WIFR.

BLACKHAWKS RECALL SKILLE FROM ROCKFORD

Chicago, Ill.-The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled right wing Jack Skille from the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs. In addition, left wing Radek Smolenak (SMOH-lehm-nahk) has been claimed on waivers by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The seventh overall pick in the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Skille registered one goal in three North American preseason games with the Blackhawks before being held scoreless in the team's two contests in Zurich, Switzerland as part of the Victoria Cup. Last season, the 22 year-old forward recorded one goal and five penalty minutes in eight regular-season games over two stints with the Blackhawks, which includes appearing in the squad's first six regular-season matchups from Oct. 10 to 19.

The Madison, Wisconsin, native spent the majority of the 2008-09 season with Rockford, tying for second on the squad with a career-high 20 goals and finishing fourth with a career-best 45 points in just 58 games. Overall, Skille has appeared in 24 games with the Blackhawks over the last two seasons, collecting six points (4G, 2A).

Smolenak, 22, made his Blackhawks debut on Thursday in the club's 3-2 loss at the Detroit Red Wings, registering a fighting major in 4:41 of action. The Prague, Czech Republic, native originally joined the team when he claimed on waivers from Tampa Bay on September 25.
