Florida Panthers Reassign Salak To Rochester, Recall Garrison
October 10, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that the Florida Panthers have reassigned goaltender Alexander Salak to the Amerks and have recalled defenseman Jason Garrison.
Salak returns to Rochester for the second time this week after receiving his first National Hockey League promotion earlier in the week. The 22-year-old Strakonice, Czech Republic, native made his NHL debut last night, earning five saves in Florida's 7-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Salak spent all of training camp and preseason with the Panthers. The 6-foot-1, 189-pound netminder boasted a 20-20-9 record with a 2.40 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage in 52 games last season with TPS Turku of the FNL. Salak signed his first NHL contract with Florida as a free agent on May 29, 2009.
Garrison departs Rochester after recording an assist in his season debut in Rochester's 5-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters last night at The Blue Cross Arena. The recall is the second of his professional career. A native of White Rock, British Columbia, Garrison skated in his NHL debut last season with the Panthers on October 25th. In 2008-09, the second-year pro finished his rookie campaign as Rochester's top scoring defenseman and fourth overall with 35 points (8+27) in 75 games. Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-0, 205-pound blueliner played three years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, registering 29 points (9+20) in 87 career games for the Bulldogs. Garrison signed an entry-level contract with the Panthers as a free agent on April 3, 2008.
The Amerks take to the road tonight for a 7:00 p.m. showdown with the East Division Albany River Rats at the Times Union Center. The contest will be the first of four encounters this season between the intra-state rivals. Rochester and Albany split the season series a year ago with an even 2-2-0 record, while Rochester owns a 46-41-9 all-time record with the Carolina Hurricanes' affiliate. The contest will be carried live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
